Straight teeth are an important part of a healthy smile. Not only do you feel more confident with a mouth full of straight, attractive teeth, but straight teeth can also actually reduce your risk for a number of dental problems.
Many of our adult patients never had the opportunity to have orthodontic care as children. Others did, but over the years, their teeth eventually drifted back into crooked positioning. No matter the reason your teeth are crooked, we have a solution for you – Invisalign®.
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign®, an invisible braces system that uses clear, plastic aligners to gently and comfortably move the teeth into their correct position, is an excellent option for adult patients who are looking to straighten their teeth.
For many adults, it’s important to maintain a professional image, and traditional metal bracket and wire braces can detract from that image. With Invisalign®, you can feel confident giving presentations in front of your boss or talking face-to-face with clients. Even from up close, it’s unlikely that they will notice your aligners.
The Invisalign® Advantage
In addition to being practically invisible, Invisalign® has even more benefits when compared to traditional braces. For instance, metal braces limit the types of foods you can enjoy because of the risk of breaking a wire or bracket. Foods that are especially crunchy or sticky should be avoided, including such healthy foods as corn on the cob, apples, and popcorn. With Invisalign®, you remove your aligners before eating, which means that no foods are forbidden – just make sure to brush your teeth before replacing your aligners!
Bracket and wire braces can create a challenge when it comes to basic oral hygiene as well. It’s crucial to brush carefully around your brackets to remove all traces of plaque. Failure to do so could leave you with permanent damage to the enamel after the brackets come off. Additionally, trying to floss around brackets and wires can pose a problem. You have to weave the floss through the wires to floss each tooth, and your regular hygiene routine can take much longer. To clean your teeth with Invisalign®, you remove your aligners, brush and floss your teeth according to your regular routine, and then clean the aligners as directed by our doctors.
Traditional braces also mean frequent trips to the dentist to have your wires tightened – a process that is notoriously uncomfortable. With Invisalign®, you will be given a series of numbered aligners and directions as to when they should be changed. All you have to do is wear the next aligner in the series, cutting down on time spent in the dentist’s chair.
